These Examples Of Karma Prove That What Goes Around Really Does Come Around

They say, “What goes around comes around.” We think it is cliched. We believe that it is going to happen in some distant future. And sometimes, there is the instant fix. Here are 4 such instances that prove this cliche is one for a reason.

1. The Man Who Robbed Bones

Dr. Michael Mastromarino was a dentist who robbed corpses of bones and tissues and, that too, from funeral houses. He ran a $4.6 million business purely by selling bones and tissues that were further used to repair tendons and ligaments, fix fractures, and as veins for bypass heart surgeries. However, he was busted and sent to the prison. It was when he was 49 years old that karma backfired. While he was still in the prison, he died of metastatic liver cancer that spread to the rest of his organs, including the bones. Karma be like – “Mission accomplished.”

2. The Rapist Who Broke Into The House In The Middle Of The Night

Richard Thomas, a rapist with an extremely impressive track record. Marijuana addiction at 9, alcohol addict by 11, and ecstasy-cocaine addiction by 13. It was Virgina Hayton whose house this man broke into, all of a sudden. He not only not remembered the entire episode owing to his drug use, but he also started brutally raping her. What was his punishment? He raped Hayton who was suffering from the effects of HIV. The next day, the police told him that he acquired this sexually transmitted disease from the victim who he raped. Can there be a better revenge? Again, karma be like – “Serves him right.”

3. The Man Who Didn’t Make It To The AIR

Heard of Amitabh Harivansh Rai Shrivastava Bachchan? Yes, Bollywood’s Big B. This was back in the 60s when Ameen Sayani, RJ at All India Radio refused to audition Amitabh and shattered the angry young man’s dream of becoming an RJ. Of course, Providence always takes charge. Ameen Sayani, in his words, “I had not a second to spare for this thin man. He waited and left and came back a few more times. But I could not see him and kept telling him through my receptionist to take an appointment and come.”  And goes to the extent of saying, “Today, though I regret denying him an audition, I realize that what happened was for the best for both of us. I would have been on the streets, and he would have got so much work on the radio that Indian cinema would have lost its biggest star.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Amitabh Bachchan’s voice is now the first preference for voiceovers for most of the important films in the history of  Bollywood like Lagaan, The Ghazi Attack, and the like. It didn’t stop there. His prowess in speech, diction, dialect, and his impeccable singing abilities fetched him the opportunity of playback singing. Karma, quite often, is not just revenge. Precisely, it means “action” and involves more facets than “what goes around, comes around.” However, in this case, his dream of becoming an RJ was shattered but came around on a much more grand scale, and he is continuing to rule Bollywood even in his 70s. Karma be like – “I ain’t a bitch all the time.”

So, we’ve all heard of the unfathomable relationship shared by Lord Krishna and his friend Sudama, didn’t we? Since we were anyway talking about karma, how can I not speak of The Krishna? Sudama and Krishna were “classmates” who stayed in a gurukul together. Later, when they grew up, they parted ways and resumed living with their families. Sudama belonged to a very poor socio-economic background and found it difficult to make ends meet. It was then that his wife prodded him to ask his affluent friend Krishna for monetary help. Poor Sudama didn’t like the idea, but still set off to make an attempt.

He reached Krishna’s wealthy palace. Sudama’s wife sent some poha as a token of gift to Krishna. Sudama, however, felt small and hid the poha. We know Krishna, right? In his usual playful manner, he asked Sudama to give him the gift he had brought but was hiding. Sudama hesitated but felt comfortable after watching Krishna relishing all the poha. Then what? Sudama decided to leave (without asking for any help, mind you.) He was disheartened not just because he couldn’t ask for help but also because he didn’t know what to answer his wife. He went back home and guess what? He found an opulent palace in place of his wrecked hut. Isn’t that karma? Isn’t that “what goes around comes around?” He gave Krishna all he had. Krishna gave him all he had. Karma be like –  “Keep calm and act good!”
